The easiest way to think about revenue AI is stage by stage. Each stage has a conversion rate, and AI can help in different ways.
| Stage | Typical AI help | What it needs |
|---|---|---|
| Prospecting | Account and contact research, personalised first drafts, signal monitoring | Ideal customer profile, clean account data |
| Qualification | Lead scoring, fast follow-up, agents working leads humans skip | Lead history, routing rules |
| Meetings | Prep briefs, call summaries, next steps logged to CRM | Calendar and call access, consent |
| Opportunities | Deal-risk signals, coaching, proposal and quote drafting | Complete opportunity data, content library |
| Close and forecast | AI-supported forecast, deal reviews | Consistent stages and close dates |
| Renewal and expansion | Health scores, churn risk, renewal briefs, support agents | Product usage, support and billing data |
Where the leverage is
A small lift early in the funnel multiplies through every later stage. A lift late in the funnel (win rate, renewal) is worth more per deal but is often harder to achieve. The funnel diagnostic tool in this hub does that arithmetic for your numbers.
Coverage is a lever too
Sometimes the biggest gain is not a higher conversion rate but working leads nobody touched. Salesforce said that historically only one in four of its sales leads were followed up; the rest scored too low for human outreach. AI agents can cover that long tail — if their quality is good enough not to burn those contacts.
Don't automate a broken stage
If a stage converts badly because of a poor offer, a wrong target market or slow hand-offs, AI will mostly make the same mistakes faster. Fix the process, then add AI.
