How do we keep AI outreach from damaging the brand?
When it comes up
Before launching an AI SDR agent or AI-drafted sequences at scale, after a complaint or a deliverability drop, or when marketing and sales disagree about volume.
Your options
Human review of every message
Fits when: Early pilots, senior or strategic audiences, regulated industries.
Watch out: Slow and costly at scale; reviewers get fatigued and stop reading carefully.
Rules plus sample review
Fits when: Proven use cases with grounding, caps and suppression built in; weekly sample review and alerts.
Watch out: Needs a named owner, clear metrics and a working kill switch.
Volume-first automation
Fits when: Rarely appropriate for a brand you want to keep.
Watch out: Spam complaints, domain deliverability damage, legal exposure, platform bans and public backlash.
How to decide
Write a one-page outreach standard covering:
- Audience: who may be contacted, by which channel, in which countries.
- Volume: caps per mailbox and domain, follow-up limits.
- Content: approved claims and sources; no invented facts, customers or prices.
- Disclosure and opt-out: where AI disclosure is required, how unsubscribe works, how fast it is honoured.
- Monitoring: spam rates, unsubscribes, complaints, sample reviews, kill-switch criteria.
Then check each channel against the rules that apply (CAN-SPAM, PECR/GDPR, Gmail sender rules, TCPA for voice, platform terms, EU AI Act Article 50).
Trade-offs
Tighter controls reduce volume and speed but protect deliverability, legal standing and brand; looser controls produce activity that can cost more in reputation than it earns in pipeline.

What to check first
- Your current spam-complaint and unsubscribe rates by domain and mailbox.
- Which countries and channels you plan to use, and the rules for each (with legal).
- Whether your tools can enforce caps, suppression lists and opt-outs automatically.
- LinkedIn and other platform terms before automating any activity there.
