Content brief
What it does
Creates a content brief for a writer (or for yourself): goal, audience, search intent, angle, outline, key points, sources to use, call to action and success measure. Use it before any blog post, guide or landing page so the draft starts aligned.
- Time saved
- ~20–40 min per brief (estimate)
- Difficulty
- Beginner
- Version
- v1 · 2026-10-01
What you give it
- Topic or working title — e.g. How distributors can stop re-keying orders
- Audience and their problem — e.g. Operations managers at mid-size distributors
- Business goal of the piece — e.g. Demo requests from ops leaders
- Target keyword (optional) (optional) — e.g. order entry automation
- Sources or internal material the writer may use (optional) — e.g. Our product docs; an approved case study
How it works
- Restate goal and audience in one line each.
- Describe the search intent behind the keyword (what the reader wants to get done).
- Propose one angle that is genuinely useful, not a rehash.
- Write an outline with H2/H3 headings and 2–3 key points each.
- List only the sources provided; mark claims that need a source as [needs source].
- Add one CTA that fits the goal and one success measure.
Output
Goal · Audience · Search intent · Angle (what makes it different) · Outline (H2/H3) · Key points per section · Sources to use · CTA · Success measure.
Quality checklist
- ☑ Clear angle
- ☑ Outline matches intent
- ☑ Claims needing sources flagged
Human check: Check the angle against what's already ranking and against your brand guidelines.
Example (fictional)
- Topic or working title: How distributors can stop re-keying orders
- Audience and their problem: Ops managers at distributors
- Business goal of the piece: Demo requests
- Target keyword (optional): order entry automation
Search intent: practical — "how do I stop typing orders twice?" Angle: a step-by-step path from manual to automated, with what to fix first. Outline
- H2 Why re-keying happens
- H2 Four steps to remove it
- H3 Map where orders come from
... CTA: "See how order import works" (demo).
