📐 How the rankings work

Every number on these charts comes from one deterministic formula. No model ever changes a score — the only thing an LLM writes is the monthly summary, and it only sees the diff. Here is the whole thing.

The formula

final = (w_data · data + w_community · community + w_editor · editor) / (w_data + w_community + w_editor)

Each part is 0–100. The weights are per type (table below; defaults 60 / 30 / 10). When an item has no editor score its editor share is redistributed pro-rata over data and community, so an un-curated item is never docked for silence. Ties break on data score, then on age (older first). Rank is simply the order of final scores inside one category.

Data score — the signals

Each signal is collected daily (GitHub, YouTube, the web) and stored as a time series. Inside a category every signal is put on a log scale and turned into a percentile 0–100 among its peers — the biggest is 100, the median 50, a missing value 0 — then multiplied by its weight. Growth signals (what was gained in the last 30 days) carry their own, higher weights: that is what lets a new item climb past an incumbent with ten years of stars. Weights re-normalise over the signals that exist, so a type whose growth data has not accumulated yet punishes nobody.

Community score

50 % votes. Up and down votes are weighted (below) and averaged with a Bayesian prior: p = (up + 10·p̄) / (up + down + 10), where p̄ is the category's mean up-share. Two votes cannot carry an item to the top — it takes about 10 to move away from the pack.

30 % head-to-head. “Which is better?” picks are fitted with a Bradley-Terry model (the same maths as chess ratings) and expressed as a percentile in the category. Items nobody has compared sit at the neutral 50.

20 % ratings. The star average is shrunk toward 3★ by five virtual reviews before it is scaled to 0–100 — a lone 5★ review barely registers; twenty of them do.

Vote weighting

  • Accounts younger than 7 days vote at weight 0 (the vote is kept and counts once the account matures).
  • Makers who claimed a listing vote at weight 0 on that listing — and are told so at the moment they vote.
  • Everyone else: 1 + 0.4 per reputation level above 1, capped at 3×. Levels start at 0 / 20 / 60 / 150 / 400 / 1000 points; votes, matchups, reviews, comments and correct predictions earn points.
  • One vote per member per item per edition; changing your mind replaces it.

Anti-gaming

Every vote records a hashed IP. A sweep looks for bursts: five or more votes on one item within 24 hours from accounts under 14 days old, or from one IP. Burst votes are put on hold — out of the score, not deleted — and a moderator restores or voids them. Voided votes are written to the change log with the reason. Comments can be flagged and hidden the same way. Nothing is auto-deleted.

Editions

The live table recomputes every day around 7 am Toronto time as new signals land. On the 1st of each month the table is frozen into an edition: a snapshot of every rank and score, with the weights in force that month attached. Votes are cast for the upcoming edition, so the month's voting decides the month's chart. The edition's “What changed” note is written by a language model from the diff only (new entries, climbers, drops, dropouts) — it never sees, and cannot alter, a score. Watchers of an item that moved get one email.

Sponsored placements

A sponsor can buy a labelled slot above a category table, marked “Sponsored”. It is never inside the ranked list, never changes a score, and its dates and label are public. That is the whole policy.

Appeals and corrections

Think an entry is wrong, duplicated, mis-categorised or missing a signal? Submit an edit with a note — every approved change is logged below with the reason — or write to hello@myaiguide.pro. Makers can claim their listing from its page.
